Northern Ireland is used as a case study for peacebuilding across the globe, attracting the attention and scrutiny of mediators, researchers, politicians, and students, like myself; however, learning about Northern Ireland is nothing compared to engaging with it, and engaging with Northern Ireland is a learning experience in and of itself.

American academic, Professor Ann Kelleher (Pacific Lutheran University), launched her new book, Pioneering Peacebuilder: A History of Holywell Trust, at the resident of Irish Joint Secretary, Ruairí de Búrca. The book details the history and activities of the community development group from its creation in September 1988 to the present day.

This showing of the film, Wings of Desire, was the third part of the series “Walled Cities”, which looked at cities in conflict divided by walls — the West Bank, Belfast, and Berlin (where this film takes place). The event was organised by the CACity (Cinema and Architecture in the City) research group, which exists to bring academics and general audiences together to discuss situations in Belfast and similar cities.
